Eagles Get Ernie Sims

I just got this text message from my roommate: "Ernie sims to the eagles"

Naturally, I went to look for verification, and there it was, via Adam Schefter's Twitter page:

Filed to ESPN: Three way trade -- Eagles get LB Ernie Sims, Lions get TE Tony Scheffler, Broncos get undisclosed draft pick.

This is completely and totally awesome. The Eagles just got their young, physical, playmaking linebacker. Last year, Sims only played in 11 games, starting in eight of them, totaling just 49 tackles in that span, but he was slowed by injuries that ultimately forced him to miss time. Bur in his three years prior to that, the now 25-year-old out of Florida State started all 16 games, never recording less than 113 tackles.

He was the 9th pick overall in 2006, and has been a very good player on a very bad team. Now he joins a young, rebuilding but still very talented Eagles roster. I love this move. Everything about it. The Eagles desperately needed a linebacker, and now they got one. If he and Stewart Bradley are back to 100 percent this season, a major weakness on the 2009 Eagles could become a strength for this team. And this move allows the Birds to focus their attention on the safety and offensive line positions, as well as more pass rushers along the defensive line and perhaps a cornerback or two. Don't know the details on the draft pick, but the Eagles certainly had plenty to spare.

Anyway, show us what we've won:

Update: Eagles gave up a 5th-round pick. I like this trade even more now.

BallHype: hype it up!
