I already made my tribute to Simon Gagne back in July when he was traded to Tampa Bay, but I did want to touch on his return to Philadelphia yesterday before the game. Sadly, our internet went down at work, so no dice.
As you know, the Flyers lost 3-2 to the Lightning at the Wells Fargo Center last night, the first time they've failed to register a point in the 2010-11 season. I could talk about the game and how the Flyers wasted a dominant first period that included a 5-on-3 power play that yielded no goals, but that really wasn't the story last night. No, that distinction belonged to Simon Gagne and the Flyers fans. It doesn't matter that Gagne didn't have much of an impact on the game or that the Flyers couldn't give the fans everything they wanted with a victory. What matters is that after a decade of memories, Philadelphia showered Gagne with love, letting him know that no matter where he finishes his career, he'll always be a Philadelphia Flyer.
Once again, I'd just like to personally say, thanks for the memories, Simon. Thanks for making being a Flyers fan so much fun.
