The Phield

See that bracket right there? It's called The Phield, and it's a twist on the NCAA tournament brackets. In this Phield, there are "65 really obsessed Phillies blogs, one shining moment," evidently.

Somehow, I had absolutely no idea this existed until yesterday, and I found out about it on Philebrity of all places. It's a pretty cool premise. Check it out:

Welcome to the tournament to determine that greatest of titles: BEST PHILLIES BLOG EVER.

Face it, there are a lot of Phillies blogs. Too many. There’s Red this and Pinstripe that, then a bunch of “Ph” blogs, plus weird allusions to Broad Street and Doug Glanville. A whole lot going on.

So with March Madness arriving, I thought it would be a fine idea to pit 65 Phillies blogs – including Philly sports blogs with Phillies focus and beat writer blogs – against each other in a NCAA-style tournament.

Yeah, that's right, weird allusions to Doug Glanville. Uh, huh. The House that Glanville Built is in the Phield. Turns out, I/we were placed in the Bissinger Region, earning a 9 seed. Frankly, I was stunned. I'm shocked the site was even included in the first place, and frankly, considering about four people read it, I assumed I'd be a lot closer to a 16 seed. Anyway, here's how the site was described in the preview of my first-round match-up with 8 seed Fightin Phillies:

9. THE HOUSE THAT GLANVILLE BUILT

housethatglanvillebuilt.blogspot.com

Driving force: Reverend Paul Revere

Like The 700 Level and Phinally Philly, The House that Glanville Built covers all Philadelphia sports, but keeps up with the Phillies just enough. Best yet though are the posts: Long and winding scribes of gonzo journalism with plenty of oddly positioned photos. And sometimes, when the stakes are running high, they pull out Calvin and Hobbes. Random? Sure. Good? That’s up to you to determine.

Um, OK. I'll take that I guess.

Naturally, given the nature of this blog, which goes even beyond covering Philadelphia sports — it's basically just for me to write whatever the hell I want, mostly about all sports, not 100 percent Philadelphia — I thought I would get obliterated in the first round. Well, I did lose, but to my surprise, the vote was damn close:

8. Fightin Phillies – 57
9. The House That Glanville Built – 54

Wow, 54 people voted for me/us? Crazy. And 111 voted on this match-up? Consider me honored to be a part of it.

It's a shame, had I known about this before yesterday, I could have gotten myself and the other "contributors" to vote me over the top. Maybe next year.

Anyway, looking at the bracket, I'm putting all my support behind The Fightins. If we're going purely on Phillies content, none is better in my opinion. Of course, it won't be easy to take down the 1 seeds, but if anyone can, it's meech and company. In fact, in my opinion, The Fightins is underseeded at a 3, much like Temple was in the real tournament. Probably deserve a 1 and definitely no worse than a 2, but whatever. The700Level is my favorite 1 seed for sure, but I definitely have to pull for meech here. With Enrico and company's partnership with Comcast, I think they've won enough lately.

As always, it was an honor to be nominated. Or something like that. I don't like losing. Then again, I had no idea this was a competition. 65 Phillies blogs? I had no idea. The Internet is out of control. Just look at me/us.

BallHype: hype it up!
