Raul Ibanez Would Like to Remind You He's Still Alive

Raul Ibanez: 3-for-4, 3 RBI, double.

Contrary to popular belief, Raul is not actually deceased. In fact, you may be surprised to hear that he's second on the team in home runs and that his 70 RBIs trail only Ryan Howard's 108 and Hunter Pence's 82 on the team even though you all hate him. Having Raul and John Mayberry as a 1-2 punch is a very good thing.

Just like having Vance Worley period. The numbers: 6 innings pitched, 7 hits, 2 runs, 6 strikeouts, including one that left Brian McCann shaking his head.

Vance Worley is now 11-1 on the season with a 2.85 ERA, and the Phillies have won his last 14 starts. As incredibly impressive as Atlanta rookies Freddie Freeman and Craig Kimbrel have been — one of whom is bound to win NL Rookie of the Year — Worley has been every bit as impressive. Makes you wonder what his numbers would look like had he been in the bigs all the year.

Oh by the way, the Phillies now have 90 wins, the first team in baseball to reach that mark this year, to go along with a 9.5 game lead over the Braves and 10 less losses than the next closest NL team in the loss column.

Moral of the story … the Phillies are good. And Raul is still alive, believe it or not.

  3. I'll root for Raul as long as he is a Phillie, but right now I'd rather see Mayberry play a bit more. I know Raul has been on a hot streak as of late, but Mayberry only has 5 less homeruns in 240 fewer at bats. He has a higher average and from what I've seen plays better defense. The 2 games I see a month may not be the greatest determination though. Go Phils!
