Last night, the Phils polished off the Padres with a 5-1 victory, completing their second straight sweep to extend the winning streak to six games.
J.A. Happ continued to pitch brilliantly as a Major League starter, making me question even more why he wasn't starting earlier, as he improved to 4-0 on the year with seven shutout innings in which he surrendered just four hits. Ryan Howard supplied the offense early with another blast, and the Phils slugged out 10 hits.
All that is well and good, but the real story is that finally, J.C. Romero was back, and of course he pitched. You really think Charlie would make him wait another game? No chance.
Admittedly, I didn't see J.C. pitch because I'm old. Once upon a time, watching the west coast games that begin at 10:05 p.m. was simple. I never slumbered before 2 a.m. anyway. Now, I struggle to make it to midnight, and last night, try as I might, I was out by 11:30. Thus, I missed the return of Romero. I'm not happy about it, but what can I do? Coke. That's what. I hear that shit will keep you up all night.
But I digress. Purely based on the numbers and numbers alone, Romero showed his rust. His line: 1 and a third innings pitched, 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 1 walk, 1 stirkeout, good for a 2.25 WHIP.
Still, J.C. got the job done, getting the game to Madson with one out in the ninth. Expect to see a heavy dose of Romero the rest of the way. It's good to have the lefty workhorse back.

Ha, no i wouldn't go the coke route i knew kids that just became retards off that shit. Stick with the 5 Hour Energy's or Redbull. I feel ur pain when the Yanks/Rangers go west and you get those 10:00 or 10:30 starts once the clock gets past 11:30 it's becomes the fight of the year to try to make it to the end of the game. Usually the last thing you see is a batter up or a pitch being made in the like 5th inning then the next thing you know it's 3 in the morning and some stupid ass paid programming shit is on.
