This Makes No Sense

Listen, I by no means am perfect in my writing or ideas in my posts. We all make mistakes, and I'm sure I've made plenty of boneheaded ones here. But some mistakes are just so maddeningly stupid that I feel obligated to point them out, especially when they occur on a site I champion in the Blogs Better Than Bissinger section of this here site.

To be fair, I like perusing The Big Lead, usually for the quality links, occasionally for some posts there. However, in my humble opinion, I don't think TBL himself is the most knowledgeable person all the time on the subject of sports, but still, he does a good job touching a variety of subjects.

Anyway, in his post today, NBA Draft: A Look at the Non-Lottery Teams, he writes:

17. Philadelphia 76ers - Can they get a starting PG to take the place of Andre Miller? Assuming Flynn, Curry, Jennings, Lawson and Maynor are off the board, that leaves Wake’s Jeff Teague (who’s a scorer, like Louis Williams), UCLA’s Darren Collison, and St. Mary’s, Patty Mills. Pick: Collison’s a pure PG, but so undersized that we’d look elsewhere and take a chance on Mills, the Olympian.

Nothing wrong with his assessment. The draft is all speculation and no one really knows who is going where. While I've made it clear I'd like to see the Sixers draft Ty Lawson, Mr. McIntyre doesn't think he'll be on the board when the Sixers draft.

Fine.

But here's where the problem occurs:

19. Atlanta Hawks - Biggest need: PG for Bibby (Acie Law isn’t the future, apparently). Pick: Ty Lawson of UNC. Improved significantly as a senior.

Wait, what? So the Sixers aren't going to draft Lawson at 17 because TBL assumes he'll be off the board, but then the Hawks are going to somehow draft a guy who the Sixers couldn't draft at 17 because he was off the board with the 19th pick. Please explain this to me.

Several commenters brought this up on the site, but TBL has yet to respond (at least as of 4:15 p.m. EST; the post went up at 2:45 p.m. EST), although he did address several other comments. I'm confused. Someone please explain this.

Also, seriously, why can't I get an account to work over at The Big Lead so I can comment over there? WordPress blows.

Update: TBL finally responded, and frankly, that's all I was looking for:

Hold on TBL…

17. Philadelphia 76ers - Can they get a starting PG to take the place of Andre Miller? Assuming Flynn, Curry, Jennings, Lawson and Maynor are off the board

Yet at pick 19…

19. Atlanta Hawks - Biggest need: PG for Bibby (Acie Law isn’t the future, apparently). Pick: Ty Lawson of UNC. Improved significantly as a senior.

Tell me how that works?

yeah, that looks like a mistake.
